Timed 5K Runners-- What you need to know

The 2016 Komen Southwest Florida Race for the Cure will be timed by Lin-Mark Sports, Inc. of Cape Coral FL utilizing the Chronotrack Timing System.  A disposable Chronotrack B-tag will be attached to your race bib number and will remain there for the entire event.

Overall winners are based on gun time. All other awards are based on chip/tag time.

During Race Week, runners (and family/friends) will be able to sign up for Athlete Race Tracking through Chronotrack Live.  Finishers will have their results texted to their mobile device within minutes after crossing a timing station.

On Race day Lin-Mark Sports will be setting up laptops near the finish line so runners can look up their results within seconds after crossing and posting results at www.linmarksports.com all race morning.

About Lin-Mark Sport's Chip System

Chrorontrack Chip System

Chip Timing is an electronic way to time your race. Athletes wear a small disposable chip that records their time as they cross designated timing mats throughout the race and at the finish line. This information is fed into laptops and race software so that Lin-Mark Sports can produce accurate and lightning fast results.

What are the advantages to chip timing? There are many advantages to using chip timing at a race. Among them include:

*Accuracy. Very little room for human error.

*Less manual work. Since the race is timed electronically, there is far less work to be done by hand. You do not need to provide a finish line staff to mark the finish time of each participant, collect bib numbers, keep people in order down a chute, etc.

*Speed of results. The results of races with multiple split points can be tabulated while the race is in progress. Your athletes will not be kept waiting around long for your awards ceremony.

What is the difference between chip time and gun time? The difference between chip and gun time is the chip is able to register with the mats at the start and finish of the race and therefore gives you a time that reflects the true distance that you ran. Chip timing has become popular over the last ten plus years as mass participation events have grown and participants do not get to the start line when the gun goes off as they are behind thousands of people.
